The main attraction of the park is a volcanic crater 1.5 kilometers in diameter and 558 meters deep, "El Boquerón". It is estimated that it was created after a strong eruption in 1917, which destroyed part of some municipalities, such as San Salvador, Nejapa or Quezaltepeque.
