Shamakhi’s greatest landmark is Juma Mosque, one of Azerbaijan’s largest and most lavish places of worship. While the current structure was reconstructed in 2013, the earliest version was built way back in 743AD, making this the second oldest mosque in the Caucasus and the oldest in Azerbaijan. Since then it has been destroyed and rebuilt several times, most notably during the devastating earthquake that reduced Shamakhi to rubble in 1859 and later by inter-ethnic clashes in 1918. Besides discovering its historical and religious significance, you can enjoy simply basking in the site’s elegance and tranquility.
Nohur Lake is a beautiful natural lake located in the northern part of Azerbaijan, surrounded by a dense forest. It is a popular tourist destination due to its picturesque landscape, which includes crystal-clear waters, verdant
forests, and rugged mountains in the distance. The lake is a great place for outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, and camping, and visitors can also enjoy a scenic boat ride or picnic by the water's edge. The area around Nohur Lake is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including rare bird species and endemic plant life, making it a popular destination for nature enthusiasts.
The final stop of the day is the enchanting Essenso Lavanda Farm (Lavender Field), where you’ll walk among fragrant lavender rows, take stunning photos, and relax in a peaceful countryside setting.
Note: From May 30 to the end of June, the Lavender Farm replaces the usual Vandam Waterfall stop for the seasonal blooming.
After a full day of exploration and beauty, relax on your return journey to Baku.
