During our off-roading and hiking adventure to Moon Canyon, we will be in the Tonto National Forest. Expect to see beautiful desert scenery including: Unique plants, cactus, and wildflowers that are native to the Sonoran Desert. Beautiful views of Ash Creek Canyon and the unique trees that grow next to it. There is always a chance to see wild animals such as cows, javelina, snakes, lizards, and birds. You will experience the Adventure of off-roading and hiking that will take you into wild and rarely traveled places you'd be unlikely to see on your own. The tour is guided and driven by our experienced tour guides to ensure safety.
Once you arrive, there will be a short safety talk. Then the ride will start on a trail that is mostly dirt and small rocks. The beginning of the trip will drive on a Forest Service Road to an off-road trail. This trail will bring us to a privatley owned meadow along Ash Creek that used to be part of the mining town known as Chrysotile. We will then park the off-road machines. This off-road portion of the trip will take approximately 30 minutes.
After parking the vehicles, we start the hiking portion of the trip. We will hike alongside Ash Creek Canyon. The path is windy with rocks tree roots, and logs. There will be some climbing over obstacles to make your way towards Moon Canyon. There is a small dam in the creek that we will have make our way over. The hike continues with crossing over the creek and over some giant boulders into Moon Canyon. We call it Moon Canyon because it looks like something from out of this world. The ground is all made up of a conglomerate of Rocks and Sand packed over millions of years. This is a fun place to take photos, explore and even have a snack.
After fully exploring Moon Canyon the group will hike back the same way we can in. Make our way past the dam and all the way back to the off-road machines. The tour will then continue along dirt and rock roads. There will be great views and photo opportunities along the way. The tour will then end back at the starting point near US Highway 60. This off-road portion of the trip will take approximately 30 minutes.
The trip starts with meeting in a parking lot off of US Highway 60, mile marker 283. You
will see our tour guides waiting with off-road vehicles lined up. There is a large safe
area to park.
