About this experience

Serenity is the first thing that comes to mind when entering the Vipava Valley. Green all year long, the valley is protected by steep mountains on one side and a gentle hilly landscape on the other. Small villages, typical of the region, are clustered around striking belfries, while towns are rare and do not disturb the marvelous countryside scenery.

Just an hour away by car, the Vipava Valley is every wine lover's dream. This day trip includes an easy hike to a (not so) secret viewpoint offering panoramic views of the entire valley. You'll enjoy a delicious snack featuring smoked ham (pršut) while visiting a local winery where you can taste exquisite Slovenian wines, learn about their production, and take in the stunning views over the karst countryside.

As this is a private trip, you can customize it to your preferences. Please contact us to discuss your options, and we will provide a tailored offer.x

Detailed itinerary

1

The Otlica Natural Window (weather permitting) looming on the steep slopes over Ajdovscina, on the edge of the Trnovo Forest, close to the village of Otlica, ancient forces of nature created a large orifice in the rock – a captivating natural window boasting a scenic view of the Vipava Valley. But don't worry, we make it an easy 20-minute track to it.

2

The scenic hillside town will catch your eye from afar. Perched proudly on a hill near Ajdovscina, Vipavski Kriz used to be a very important town and the center of the valley for centuries. The tiny, picture-book town with an impressive wall is one of the finest monuments of cultural history in the country.

3

Perched on a steep slope overlooking the village of Branik stands Rihemberk Castle, one of the most picturesque castles in the country, and a monument of national importance. The site featured traces of a prehistoric fortress, whereas the castle itself was built in the late 12th century. The impressive Gothic tower dominating over the area was erected in the 13th century.

4

Your day in the Vipava Valley ends at a picturesque local winery surrounded by rolling vineyards. Enjoy a guided tasting of the valley’s signature wines — from crisp whites to elegant reds — while taking in sweeping views over the hills and villages below. It’s the perfect way to unwind, savor local flavors, and soak in the beauty of the valley before returning to Ljubljana.

What's not included

Optional second wine tasting in local winary (25 € per person)
