Dujiangyan is the oldest and only surviving no-dam irrigation system in the world. Over 2,200 years ago, it was constructed under the leadership of Li Bing, a local official, and his son. It consists of three parts-Yuzi, Feishayan and Baopingkou, which work together to control the water flow. For several centuries, the great irrigation system has contributed a lot to the flood prevention and agricultural development, thus making Chengdu Plain “the land of abundance”.
