Join me; a British Cycling accredited mountain bike guide for a scenic and leisurely E-bike tour starting at Weymouth E-bike Hire in the centre of Weymouth town. This 5-6-hour guided ride takes you through breathtaking coastal landscapes, historic sites, and offers plenty of opportunities for photos and exploration. There will be sufficient stops for breaks and refreshments along with a stop for lunch.
This tour will finish back in Weymouth town. If you are joining this tour as a passenger from a cruise ship then you will have sufficient time to explore Weymouth town and beach. Other E-Bike guided tours start and finish on the Isle of Portland. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the historic seaside town of Weymouth and its harbour - a major departure point for the Normandy landings during the 2nd world war.
The tour begins at Weymouth E-bike hire in the centre of Weymouth. After a safety briefing and introduction to the bikes we will ride out of town on cycle paths alongside the picturesque Marina.
The Rodwell trail is a traffic free disused railway line. This is the perfect start of the tour to allow riders to get used to the E-bikes. This 5km trail takes you through short railway tunnels to the start of Chesil beach.
Halfway along the Rodwell trail we will make a 30 second detour to view the historic Sandsfoot Castle ruins, walk around the immaculately kept gardens and enjoy views over Portland Harbour.
After the ride across the Portland causeway we will head over to explore the vibrant marina; home of the national sailing academy and site of the 2012 Olympic sailing events. There will also be an opportunity to admire the historic Portland Castle.
After leaving Portland Castle we will ride the 1 mile up the hill to the top of Portland to enjoy spectacular views across Chesil Beach and the stunning Jurassic coastline from the Olympic Rings viewpoint.
PLEASE NOTE - The climb up the hill is 1 mile and is part on road. A further safety briefing will take place before we begin this route of the tour.
Explore the iconic Portland Bill Lighthouse and the rugged coastline at the tip of Portland. We will stop for approximately 1 hour to grab refreshments/lunch at the Lobster Pot Café.
The ride back to Weymouth town centre from Portland Bill will begin but the tour will not be complete without stopping at Tout Quarry Sculpture Park and memory stones. We will stop here to explore on foot the park and enjoy further views across Chesil beach.
Halfway along the Portland Causeway we will stop at the Chesil Beach visitor Centre. Learn about the history and wildlife of this stunning natural wonder and explore the shop and cafe.
The tour will finish with a peaceful ride and/or stroll through these scenic gardens. You will also get an opportunity to see the historic Nothe Fort before returning to Weymouth E-bike Hire.
Meet your guide in the centre of Weymouth to pick up your bikes and begin your E-bike tour. For cruise passengers the meeting point is a quick 10 minute walk through Weymouth harbour from the free shuttle bus drop off point.
