A prison island is an island that is used as a location for a prison or correctional facility. Prison islands have been used throughout history to incarcerate individuals who have been convicted of crimes, and they continue to be used in many countries today.
One of the main attractions on Prison Island is the giant tortoise sanctuary, which is home to over 100 giant Aldabra tortoises. These tortoises are some of the oldest living creatures on earth, with some estimated to be over 100 years old. Visitors can feed and interact with the tortoises, and learn about their history and conservation efforts.
Other notable landmarks on the island include the ruins of an old prison, which was never actually used to house prisoners, and a small chapel built by the first owner of the island, Sultan Said Majid.
