2
Stop 2

From here you have a stunning view of the old town and its first hotels, the fortress wall and its 9 towers, the city's main church and the beautiful promenade. We will talk about commerce in the 13th century and tourism in the 19th and their role in the fate of the city. We will remember royalty and celebrities who stayed in Lucerne in different years. The Grand Tour and the British. We will talk about the mountains of Riga, Pilatus and Bürgenstock. You will learn where the most expensive hotel in the world is located

3
Stop 3

Built in the early 1300‘s, it was formerly part of the town fortifications. The bridge is the oldest covered wooden bridge in Europe and is decorated with unique 17th-century paintings depicting the lives of patron saints and scenes from the history of the city and Switzerland..

4

The origin and meaning of the figure are not so easy to determine.
The Fritschi custom probably goes back to the last meeting of the Lucerne and Innerschwyzer in the Old Zurich War, when the Austrian superiority was defeated at Ragaz on Fridolinstag, 06 March 1446 - it was at the same time the Alte Fasnacht (Carnival).

Fritschi can be traced back to the fifteenth century, when he used to be a straw puppet and probably the symbolic figure of one of the guilds.

5
Stop 5

Weinmarkt -According to legend, it was here that the citizens of Lucerne in 1332 swore allegiance to the federation formed by Uri, Schwyz and Unterwald.

6

Lucerne’s largest historic square.
During the Middle Ages, it was home to mills of all kinds due, principally, to its proximity to the river and the need for hydropower.

7
Stop 7

Town Hall on Kornmarkt - was built between 1602 and 1606 by the Italian architect Anton Isenmann and is valued as a masterpiece of late Renaissance style. Kornmarkt is a small square in old town Lucerne dating back to medieval times when a corn market used to be held here.

8
Stop 8

Pfistern Guild House - seat of the bakers’ and millers’ guild. Pfistern - was what the Romans called their bakers. An interesting story is connected with the coats of arms on the building.

9
Stop 9

Lucerne, which was the city to remain Catholic after the Reformation, called the Jesuits here in 1573 to establish a college.

10

Its name comes from the word «Spreu», meaning chaff: the town's flour mills were permitted to dump their waste into the River Reuss from this bridge. And like the Chapel Bridge, boasts a striking series of paintings. They are dedicated to the theme of life and death: Dance of Death.

11
Stop 11

Lucerne Theatre - is the only professional theatre in the Lucerne and Lake Lucerne Region to present productions in different sectors of the performing arts with its own ensembles.

12

The Musegg wall with its nine towers is part of the ramparts built in the 14th century to protect the town of Lucerne - as is the Chapel Bridge. From April to the end of October, we will climb one of the towers that offers stunning views of the lake, mountains, and city

13
Stop 13

The dying lion of Lucerne was sculpted from the living rock of the cliff and commemorates the Swiss guardsmen who died in 1792 during the French Revolution. The most mournful and touching piece of stone according to Mark Twain
