Detailed itinerary

1

A 45 minute drive from Greenock along the River Clyde and over the Erskine Bridge takes us into the Highlands and our first stop, the village of Luss on the western shore of Loch Lomond. Walk past the sandstone and slate cottages to the pier with it's wonderful views across to Ben Lomond and expansive loch views. Luss Graveyard has graves dating back to 600AD/ 700AD, there is also a Viking grave from the 11th century complete with a Viking Hogback Stone.

2

A 27 minute drive from Luss, passing through Arrochar, at the head of the fjord of Loch Long, we drive through high and steep sided Glens, to arrive at The Rest and Be Thankful. For centuries the pass has been affectionately known as The Rest and Be Thankful, or simply The Rest. The climb out of Glen Croe is so long and steep that it was traditional for travellers and drovers to rest at the top, and be thankful for having made the highest point. A perfect place for a group photo.

3

Arriving in Inveraray, just 23 minutes after leaving The Rest and Be Thankful and driving through more impressive Glens, it's time to enjoy this picture perfect village at the top of Loch Fyne. There are some very good shops for souvenirs and Scottish products in the village. There is also the beautiful Inveraray Castle and Gardens. Entry to the castle and gardens requires entry fee, (closed Tue & Wed). There are a few take-away and sit in cafe's, however guests love the wonderful Loch Fyne Oyster Bar just 12 minutes drive from Inverary, with a deli and a take-away with a sitting area outside. You can adjust your time in Inverary, if you want to visit. If you wish to visit the Castle, there is an entry fee. Entry to Inverary Castle and Gardens, Adult £14.50, Entry to just the Castle Gardens £7.00

Built around 1450, this long abandoned castle is still very impressive, sitting at the top of Loch Awe ringed by mountains both close by and distant makes for a very memorable visit. After our visit we head back to Inverary

5

Leaving Inverary and The Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, we have a very scenic 65 minute journey along the east shore of Loch Fyne then through the heart of the Cowal Peninsula with steep, thickly wooded Glens to Kirn at the entrance to the Holy Loch and onto an open ferry, We cross the Firth of Clyde with spectacular views during the 15 minute voyage to Gourock.
