Detailed itinerary

1

Paleokastritsa is located slightly north of the island’s west coast center, about 25 km from Corfu town. It is one of the most beautiful places in Corfu and the Ionian islands.

The area of Paleokastritsa is the most valuable jewel of Corfu. Set on a number of bays separated by small promontories. This is a resort with a unique feature. From Lakones village up in the hills, it looks like a place of extraordinary beauty, like heaven on Earth, and from inside it’s an amazing tourist resort. Paleokastritsa is green, yes but the whole Corfu is green after all, so what makes this place so memorable? Definitely is the beautiful shape of the seaside with the capes and bays-beaches between, 6 in total. Αnd the spectacular view from the hills above the resort from the village of Lakones.

On the headland farthest out to the sea is the beautiful 12th-century monastery of Theotokos. Still working and occupied by cat-loving monks. It contains the famous icon of the Virgin in its church.

The outer areas of the palace are decorated with incomparable pieces of art. The most valuable statue of Achillion is the ‘Dying Achilles’ that represents Achilles dying trying to remove the spear from his ankle. The tickets are not included in the price. Kanoni area & Vlacherna monastery are maybe among the most popular touristic attractions of the island. Basically a residential area that has been adopted as a tourist base because of its proximity to the airport and Corfu Town as well as its panoramic views. A narrow causeway crosses the water to the much-photographed monastery of Vlacherna on its tiny islet. Just beyond this is a slightly larger, wooded mound known as Mouse (Pontikonissi) Island. The sеaside is presеnted only bу а few small bеaches оn the еаst side, the wеst is entirely οсcupiеd by the airport. The runway of thе аirpоrt literallу ends in thе sea, next tο thе Vlachernа Monasterу, аnd thеre yоu сan seе planes tаking οff and landing so clоse tο you thаt уоu can almοst touсh thеm. A few cafеs hаve plaсed thеir tables аt the south еnd оf Kanοni and they offer viеw tо the аirpοrt and the monastеrу.

Corfu town, especially for its oldest part, is one of the most charming and romantic places of all Greece. It is a perfect example of ancient Venetian and Byzantine art that will be able to fascinate you with its little streets and its panoramic points. Surrounded by the sea, the old town of Kerkyra is closed between the two ancient fortresses. Corfu Town is a major tourist attraction, and has played an important role since the 8th century. The old town of the city was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The old fortifications of the town, formerly so extensive as to require a force of from 10,000 to 20,000 troops to man them. Corfu town today is a vivid tapestry of cultures—a sophisticated weave, where charm, history, and natural beauty blend. Stroll down narrow cobbled streets and admire the Venetian influence in the architecture, as the town's history comes to life.
