Stop 1

Tianmen literally means "Gate to Heaven" in Chinese. The steep cliff face of the mountain collapsed and formed a 130 meter (426 feet) high and 30 meter (98 feet) wide "cave," or a natural bridge, in the year of 263. Since then, the mountain has been named as Tianmen. Tianmen Mountain has been called "one of the most beautiful mountains in the world” by visitors. It has huge quartzite sandstone peaks and a giant natural sandstone arch, offering astonishing scenery. With natural miracles present in the Tianmen Cave and the impressive forest, the site has been frequented by writers, poets, artists and emperors, as well as monks since ancient times. The Cableway located on the mountain is reportedly the "longest passenger cableway of high mountains in the world" and has 98 cars and a total length of 7,455 metres (24,459 ft).
