Mt Longonot is a volcanic mountain located 73km from Nairobi. It has an altitude of 2856m and has been dormant for over 200 years.
This trip begins at 6.00 am where your driver will pick you up from your hotel. After driving for an hour you will take a break at the Great rift valley view point for pictures. Here you’ll be able to view Mt Longonot and other features on the floor of the Rift Valley.
The drive then continues for 30 more minutes before you arrive at the mountain. You will then start the hike up the mountain with your guide. The hike is 3.1km from the entrance to the rim where you have a view of the crater. Depending on how you feel once you reach the rim you will decide if you’re able to go around the rim. Enjoy views of Lake Naivasha, Hells gate and Mount Suswa on the hike around the rim. The distance around the rim is 7.2km. This hike takes 4 to 6 hours.
It is advisable to wear hiking boots and clothes. Snacks and drinking water also make the experience much better.
After the hike your driver will take you to Lake Naivasha. Here you will have lunch and then the boat ride will follow. This is a one hour boat ride where you will see hippopotamus, waterbucks, giraffes, impala and other animals. You will also see birds such as cormorants, fish eagles, kingfishers, pelicans and many more. You will also enjoy views of the crescent island.
A walk on the crescent island can be organised at a fee.
After the boat ride the 2 hour drive back to Nairobi follows.
