About this experience

Split, “The most beautiful city in the world," as its inhabitants like to say, is more than 1700 years old. Back in the 3rd century, Roman emperor Diocletian decided to build his retirement home here. His palace, UNESCO World Heritage site, and one of the world’s most impressive Roman monuments was a foundation of today`s Split.
Join me on a tour and you will be able to see buildings from Roman times, 3500 year old sphinxes from Egypt, hear stories and legends about the history of Split, and experience a mixture of past and present day in the second largest city in Croatia.

Stop 1

This is where we start our tour with introduction to history of Split and Diocletian's Palace.

Substructures represent one of the best preserved ancient complexes of that kind in the world. They were also filming set for world famous Game of Thrones series.

Vestibule was the main entrance to emperor´ s aparment in Roman times.

Stop 4

Peristyle is a beautiful square in the middle of the Palace. It was part of a complex devoted to religion and to the worship of Diocletian.

Temple of Jupiter

Stop 6

Cathedral of Saint Domnius was originally built as Emperor Diocletian's mausoleum.

Statue made by Ivan Meštrović is one of the landmarks of Split.
