Located just outside the medieval walls of Sassari’s historic center, Piazza d’Italia is one of Sardinia’s most striking squares, serving as the vibrant heart of the “Costa di Sopra.” At its center stands the statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II, sculpted by Giuseppe Sartorio and inaugurated in 1899 in the presence of the royal family. The square’s elegant paving and two grand palaces were designed by Eugenio Sironi and Giovanni Borgnini, and completed within four years, becoming iconic symbols of the city.
