The first stop on our cozy journey will be in 1 hour from Vienna, Krems-an-der-Donau. A medieval trading town that was an important place at the intersection of trade routes from East to West along the Danube. That's why it was called the Wachau Gate. Thanks to this, winemaking began to develop in the city in Ancient Roman times.
We will visit a local wine producer, the family has owned vineyards since the 18th century. During our walk, we will visit wine cellars and learn the secret of wine production on Austrian soil, and taste 3 samples of wine.
From Krems the village road will take us to the next point on this stretch of the waterway, the town of Durnstein. A small but significant place due to its location, a rich abbey, which can still be seen today, as well as a medieval fortress. According to legend, one of the prisoners of this fortress was Richard the Lionheart.
We will walk through the narrow streets of the town and admire the view of the ruins of the fortress on the hill above the city.
Our next stop will be at the observation deck in the Weissenkirchen in der Wachau. It is one of the most spectacular views of the terraced vineyards of the Wachau Valley.
In this wine village, we will stop in the local restaurant for lunch (not included) and wine tasting (2 samples of wine are included).
The final point of our cozy journey will be the town of Melk.
We will visit the courtyard and the main cathedral of the Melk Abbey, the most beautiful Baroque abbey in Austria.
After that, we will walk through the streets of the town from the hill where the main building of the abbey is located to the bank of the Danube River.
The road back to Vienna will be around 1 hour.
We can drop you off at the hotel or at any other place (restaurant, apartments).
