2

The house played a crucial role in the transatlantic slave trade, serving as a grueling place of detention for enslaved individuals awaiting the perilous journey to the Americas, particularly the French colonies. Today, it has been transformed into a museum and memorial, preserving the memory of those who suffered during this dark chapter of history.

Visiting the Agbodrafo Slave House offers a profound educational and emotional experience. It serves as a platform to learn about the horrors of the slave trade, celebrate the resilience of African communities, and pay tribute to those who endured immense suffering. The museum's exhibits include artifacts, documents, and exhibits that shed light on this painful period.

3

Following your visit to the Agbodrafo Slave House, prepare for an equally captivating experience by embarking on a crossing of Lake Togo to reach the other shore of the charming town of Togoville. This next stage of your journey will allow you to discover a completely different side of the region.

The serenely beautiful Lake Togo stretches out before you, offering tranquil waters that sparkle in the African sun. You will board a traditional canoe, guided by local fishermen who are experts in the ancestral art of navigation on the lake. As you glide across the calm waters, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the light breeze, contemplate the surrounding nature and soak up the tranquility that reigns on the lake.

4

When you enter Notre-Dame du Lac Cathedral, the first thing that strikes you is its majestic decor. The religious sculptures that adorn the cathedral are breathtaking.

Inside the cathedral, the atmosphere is full of serenity and spirituality. The faithful come here to pray, gather and participate in religious celebrations. The exceptional acoustics of the cathedral create an atmosphere conducive to contemplation and reflection.

5

Continue your exploration by going to the Twin Tree, then head to a vodou convent where you will have the opportunity to ask all the questions that arouse your curiosity. Also take this opportunity to participate in libation ceremonies and many other fascinating experiences.

Lunch break at Miadjoé or at the Hotel du Lac

7

After enjoying a delicious lunch, continue your journey with a truly exceptional experience: a visit to the mouth where Lake Togo meets the Atlantic Ocean. This meeting between two bodies of water offers a breathtaking natural spectacle that deserves to be discovered.

As you approach the mouth, the transformation of the landscape is striking. The calm waters of Lake Togo begin to mix with the powerful force of the Atlantic Ocean, creating an area of great beauty and ecological importance.

Once there, take a moment to admire the majesty of this natural union. You will observe how the characteristics of the two environments intertwine, creating a delicate balance between the fresh waters of the lake and the salty waters of the ocean.

8

To conclude our tour, you will continue your journey to a sacred site associated with the international event "Epe-Ekpe". Originating from the Guens who settled in the lake region in 1663 after their arrival from Ghana in the 17th century, "Epe-Ekpe" is a ceremony marked by the taking of the sacred stone called "Kpessosso", which is the central point of all festivities. You can visit if no ceremony is taking place.

This celebration marks the beginning of the year for the Guin ethnic group. It does not have a fixed date, but it is generally observed in September each year, although it can also occur in August on rare occasions.
