Detailed itinerary

1

Candelaria is an important pilgrim site and many of its visitors come to the Basilica to the shrine of the Black Madonna, who is the patron saint of the Canary Islands. On the square in front of the Basilica on the edge of the sea, the Plaza de Patrona de Canarias, there are 9 colossal statues of Guanche (Aboriginal) chiefs along the sea wall.
The old town of Candelaria is pleasant and the main square has plenty of bars and nice shops. You can find some lovely wooden balconies typicals of Canarian architecture. There is also a nice promenade along the sea-front and a small harbour.
You can visit the Cave Chapel of San Blas, the Basilica, have a coffee or a snack.

2

Welcome to the Realm of Mystery! Your are going to visit a LEPROSY including a Spanish Fascism style church and military quarter. All this together with enchanting beaches and beautiful white villages. Wonderful views of the Atlantic 0cean and the nearby mountains are wating for us too. We will do a very easy walk of about 3 hours round trip. We will start from a picturesque white hamlet located next to a beautiful beach with golden sand. From this place we will walk directly to the mysterious abandoned Village of Lepers. These are 40 buildings of SPANISH FASCIST STYLE (late-Francoism) that impose on the eye. The curious thing is that all these buildings were built to serve as Leprosy. They had a crematorium, a very impressive CHURCH, a school, a hospital, recreational spaces and accommodation blocks. Of course we will visit the famous Cathedral of Lepers.
You will take pictures and receive a lot of interesting information about the fascinating history of this mysterious place.

3

Then we will go down to another beautiful village where we can have a coffee and a sandwich and rest a bit. In the second part of the trip we will return to the initial point following a different route, a little longer but very beautiful. We will visit several nearby beaches and a picturesque lighthouse. Back to the small white village where we left and we will go to the beach. You can even get into the ocean if you want to swim.
