About this experience

Admire the sunset from Madeira's third-highest peak on a shared tour from Funchal to Pico do Arieiro. enjoy visiting Pico do Arieiro without the big crowds. You have the option to go on a self guided hike to the Stairway to Heaven and Ninho da Manta viewpoints (roughly 2.4 km total with return)

Following pickup at your accommodation, we head towards Pico do Arieiro at an altitude of 1,818 meters where you can enjoy the sun setting in one of the island's most beautiful settings. See shades of orange, pink, and red from above the clouds.

Before settling into your ideal viewing spot, enjoy the lovely scenery of Pico do Arieiro and then enjoy the sunset.

This is the one of the best ways to visit Pico do Arieiro and enjoy it's nature without overcrowded viewpoints. It's you and nature enjoying each other's company.
Be advised that the views won't always be clear and that changes to the program might have to be made in order to see the sunset as the walking is optional but no added fees

Stop 1

Highest viewpoint of the island reachable by car at 1818 metres of altitude or 6060 ft.
We stay 1h30 minutes here and this can be spent visiting the popular viewpoints such as Stairway to Heaven (Miradouro Pedra Rija) and Ninho da Manta.
We leave Pico do Arieiro 30 minutes after the sunset ( this time will be given to you by the guide on arrival at Pico do Arieiro) so we advise to plan your return to the car in order ot be back in time before departure (normally we recommend going immediately to the viewpoints such as stairway to heaven as the return from this viewpoint can take 30 to 40 minutes around 1.2 km walk)

We also do the Sunset tour in Ponta do Pargo, the western tip of the island, especially if the weather in Pico do Arieiro isn’t ideal for the sunset for that particular day.

You can explore Pico do Arieiro as we will stay there for 1h30 minutes and this viewpoint is one of the spots you can visit. It is optional but included in our price

More known as Stairway to Heaven. You have the option to visit this viewpoint and enjoy some great views. If you plan on visiting this viewpoint we recommend good walking shoes and also to go there as soon as we arrive to pico do arieiro as the return can take 30 minutes or more and we leave 30 minutes after the sunset time ( this departure time will be given to you by the guide)

The walking to Stairway to Heaven viewpoint is optional and Self guided so please be cautious and respect the appropriate trails and guidelines
We recommend having a meal before the Tour as restaurants will be closed by the time we arrive to Pico do Arieiro
This tour will take place rain or shine. If the weather/visibility conditions at the top are not good enough to explore the peaks ( torrential rain) we will change locations in order to try to get a view of the sunset. But we will always drive to pico do arieiro unless the road is closed or if there is a red alert for weather.
