Visit the Palais Garnier and the Madeleine Church, known locally as L'église de la Madeleine. This 18-19th century building in the form of a Greek temple was originally built in honour of Napoleon's army and now serves as a church and concert venue. Step inside to admire its lavish decor inspired by Roman baths and Renaissance artists, with a celebrated pipe organ, a great statue of St Mary Magdalene, and a fascinating fresco entitled The History of Christianity.
