There is plenty of time to explore the two highlights of this stop: a Roman-style theatre (the largest in Lycia!) and eerie rock-cut tombs carved into the cliffs above.
Our tour continues with the Santa Claus Museum in Demre town centre. Originally built in 520 A.D., this interesting archeological building started its operation as a church, built in memory of St. Nicholas of Myra, a 4th-century patron saint. Here you can explore the remains of this former church, taking yourself back in time to when the ancient city of Myra still existed.
The St. Nicholas Church in Demre, an important Christian pilgrimage site dating back to AD 343 located in the Republic of Türkiye, boasts captivating Byzantine frescoes and mosaics. It was reconstructed by Constantine IX and houses the original sarcophagus of Santa Claus, making it an absolute must-visit destination.
Your chance to discover Demre’s most famous archeological site! A true step back in history as you observe some of Myra’s most significant ancient ruins dating as far back as the 5th century B.C.
From the visitor reception area, you will find walking paths leading you past the Andriake ruins. The last point on the path is a 2nd-century ancient granary, which has been converted into the Museum of Lycian Civilizations. Here you will find artefacts from nearby Lycian cities which have survived the years, and tell you more about the ancient history of the region.
After a truly memorable trip discovering Kekova and Demre, a private transfer will bring you back to your hotel in Kaş, leaving you to relax and absorb your experiences of the day.
