Stop 1

We will enter the site through the Propylaea, which literally means “gateway”. While on the Acropolis, you’ll be able to visit such world-renowned sites as the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erectheion with its famous supporting columns in the shape of draped maidens (the caryatids), and finally, one of the most famous temples in human history, the Parthenon itself.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a war memorial located in Syntagma Square in Athens, in front of the Old Royal Palace. It is a cenotaph dedicated to the Greek soldiers killed during war. It was sculpted between 1930 and 1932 by sculptor Fokion Rok. The tomb is guarded by the Evzones of the Presidential Guard.

Η Αρχαία Αγορά της Αθήνας είναι ο ανοικτός χώρος που βρίσκεται εγγύτατα και βορειοδυτικά της Ακρόπολης. Στην αρχαιότητα αποτελούσε διοικητικό, φιλοσοφικό, εκπαιδευτικό, κοινωνικό, πολιτιστικό και κυρίως το οικονομικό κέντρο της πόλης. Την Αρχαία Αγορά διέσχιζε η Οδός των Παναθηναίων από την οποία διερχόταν η μεγάλη πομπή προς την Ακρόπολη κατά την διάρκεια των εορτασμών των Παναθηναίων που θέσπισε ο Πεισίστρατος και τελούνταν το τρίτο έτος κάθε Ολυμπιάδας.

Το Μοναστηράκι είναι κεντρική συνοικία της Αθήνας γύρω από την Πλατεία Μοναστηρακίου, η οποία εκτείνεται στη νότια πλευρά της οδού Ερμού, από το ύψος της Πλατείας Μητροπόλεως έως την Πλατεία Θησείου. Γειτνιάζει με τις συνοικίες του Ψυρρή, της Πλάκας και του Θησείου.

Η ονομασία της προέρχεται από την παλιά εκκλησία της Κοιμήσεως της Θεοτόκου Αθήνας, που βρίσκεται χτισμένη επί της πλατείας, και παλαιότερα ήταν μετόχι μοναστηριού και συγκεκριμένα, της Μονής Καρέα στον Υμηττό. Στην Πλατεία Μοναστηρακίου δεσπόζει επίσης το παλιό Τζαμί Τζισταράκη που έχει κατασκευαστεί το 1759 και το οποίο σήμερα στεγάζει παράρτημα του Μουσείου Λαϊκής Τέχνης.

Η περιοχή του Μοναστηρακίου εθεωρείτο διαχρονικά μέρος της συνοικίας του Ψυρρή, η οποία έφτανε μέχρι το Θησείο και τα όρια της Πλάκας. Άρχισε να υφίσταται ως ξεχωριστή συνοικία μετά τη διάνοιξη της οδού Ερμού το 1835.

Το Μουσείο Ακρόπολης είναι αρχαιολογικό μουσείο επικεντρωμένο στα ευρήματα του αρχαιολογικού χώρου της Ακρόπολης των Αθηνών. Πρόκειται για το δεύτερο σε σπουδαιότητα αρχαιολογικό μουσείο εντός της Ελληνικής επικράτειας, μετά το Εθνικό Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο επί της οδού Πατησίων. Το μουσείο κτίστηκε για να στεγάσει κάθε αντικείμενο που έχει βρεθεί πάνω στον ιερό βράχο της Ακρόπολης και στους πρόποδες του καλύπτοντας μία ευρεία χρονική περίοδο από την Μυκηναϊκή περίοδο έως την Ρωμαϊκή και Παλαιοχριστιανική Αθήνα ενώ ταυτόχρονα βρίσκεται πάνω στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο Μακρυγιάννη, κατάλοιπο των Ρωμαϊκών και πρώιμων βυζαντινών Αθηνών.
