Our first stop is Kerri Greens Wines, a philosophy entrenched in the vines, as the winemaker-viticulturist dyad manage three vineyard sites across the Mornington Peninsula using sustainable and organic practices.
Off the vine, the winemaking follows a similar line. Additions are kept to a minimum and wild yeast is left to spontaneously start fermentation, allowing the unique biology of the vineyard and season to play it’s part. There is no rush to bottle and where possible it takes place without fining or filtration.
The cellar door offers a relaxed tasting experience with bring your own picnics, a large expanse of lawns, and panoramic views of the valley below.
Our 2nd stop is Feninan Wines, a winery that specializes in Estate grown Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay, what the Mornington Peninsula grows best!
Fenian Wines are produced to allow full expression of the character of the variety. Getting the ideal fruit and then ensuring the winemaking process is expressing the best out of that fruit. Many of their processes are based on handcraft rather than mechanisation, minimising the use of pumps, ensuring gentle processes and conserving as much character and flavour as possible.
Our lunch stop for the day is Red Gum BBQ, an amazing BBQ and beer hall – featuring slow-smoked loveliness and Southern delectables and craft beer from around Victoria. Lunch is at the expense of guests.
Red Gum’s guiding principals are: “Great meat comes from farmers who care about their animals. BBQ tastes better when shared with friends and family. Loving what you do shines through.”
Our 4th stop is JimmyRum, a craft rum distillery with an audacious goal, to change the way Australians think about rum. Uncomplicated, unpretentious, and unruly, JimmyRum’s are distinctive and downright delicious.
You will be visiting the working distillery in Dromana, where you can experience a guided tasting and a seasonal menu featuring local peninsula producers. You may even want one of their award-winning spirits to taste and take home. After all, a day at JimmyRum is one of Mornington Peninsula’s greatest finds. Cost of Spirits at this venue are at the expense of the Guests.
