starts at the old central square of Medan, the Lapangan Merdeka (Independence square), in former times called Esplanade. Along Kesawan square are the central buildings of the town, some of them originating from colonial times like the Lonsum building of the British Harrisons & Crosfield company, in former days called the Julianagebouw, build in 1911, the offices of the Netherlands Indian Trading Bank and the Netherlands Trading Company build in the 1920s, the old town hall from 1908, the office of the Bank Indonesia, dating back to 1907, Hotel Dharma Deli (hotel De Boer) build in 1898 and the postoffice from 1911.

Called "a historical jewel in Medan", the 35-room, 2-storey Tjong A Fie Mansion was built in 1895 on an area of 8000 sq. meter. It is a registered historical landmark as well as a cultural heritage building and museum.

The Mansion has Chinese, Malay and Art Deco influences in its architecture style. The structure was built observing feng-shui principles. The rooms are on four sides of the structures and surround a big open-air courtyard in the middle, signifying the "Well of Heaven".

The Maha Vihara Maitreya building is divided into three main buildings namely the general Baktisala, Baktisala Maitreya and meeting hall

General Baktisala is a place for performing ritual worship of Sakyamumi Buddha, Avalokitervara Bodhisattva and Satyakalama Bodhisatva

Entering the second building, you will enter the Baktisala Maitreya area. In this area there is the Baktisala Patriarchate and also a special room for the reception. So in addition to places of worship, the Maitreya Temple is often also used for tourism activities and wedding receptions

In the third building only a meeting hall with a capacity of 2,000 people. Each building at the Maitreya Monastery actually has a guesthouse. However, the guesthouse which has the most complete facilities is the General Baktisala building, which includes office space, meeting rooms, recording studios and public kitchens.

Gunung Timur Temple is a Chinese temple which is the largest in the city of Medan, Indonesia and possibly also on the island of Sumatra. This temple was built in the 1962 and dedicated to Dongyue Dadi

Built in 1906 – 1909, the historical Great Mosque is one of the most important landmarks and pilgrimage sites in Medan. Built by the Sultan/King of Sultanate Deli, it has octagonal symmetrical layout adorned with detailed ornaments and combined elements from Morocco, Europe and Middle East. .

Maimun or Maimoon Palace was the royal palace of the Deli Sultanate built in 1887 - 1891 that now serves as a museum. Explore the palace ground and admire the unique interior that combines Malay cultural heritage, Islamic and Indian architecture, with Spanish and Italian furniture and fittings. Observe the collection of keris daggers and opt for a photo in a traditional dress (additional charge applies)

Also known as Graha Maria Annai Velangkanni or Our Lady of Good Health Church, it is a Catholic Church with Indo-Mogul style built in 2005 dedicated to Saint Maria Annai Velangkanni.
