The result of outstanding architectural design, the Pont du Gard is one of the world’s best-preserved examples of Roman ingenuity.

A true masterpiece of Gallo-Roman architecture, the Maison Carrée is today the only ancient temple in the world to be perfectly preserved.
The garden was laid out in accordance with the classical layout around the Nemausus spring, spreading forth a supply of water that feeds pools and the canal. In the Gallo-Roman period, this area was the site of the baths, theatre and the temple of Diana which with its surrounding greenery makes for a romantic backdrop.
The Roman amphitheatre (or arena) in Nîmes is the best-conserved of the Roman world.
The monument was turned into a fortress in the Middle Ages, forming a refuge for the population in case of danger. The inner part was later filled by private houses until the nineteenth century. In 1809, houses, chapels and the chateau of the viscounts of Nîmes were demolished to give the monument its initial appearance.
Today, the amphitheatre forms a fine venue for many occasions—bullfights, congresses, concerts and sports events.
Uzès is listed as a 'City of Arts and History'. You will discover its great many riches as you wander the streets of Uzès with its major Roman remains. Of course there is the famous Roman aqueduct of 50 km which carried the water to Nîmes.
