Detailed itinerary

1

Our circuit begins on the Sea Front, near the Kiosque Guédon. This kiosk is a meeting point and a place of events known to all the inhabitants of Fort-de-France. Its name comes from a famous Martinican artist, musician and visual artist... The Malecon, as the Foyalais affectionately call their seafront, is a superb promenade where Martiniquans and Martiniqauaises of all ages like to meet, stroll, and indulge in all kinds of activities, day and night: swimming, nautical activities or simply lazing around.

2

La Baie Flamands has been ranked among the most beautiful bays in the world by the World Trade Market. It appears in this list alongside the Bay of San Francisco in the United States, the Bay of Tadoussac in Canada, the Bay of Cartagena in Colombia
The main halls at the Accademia also offers visitors works by great Italian artists such as Sandro Botticelli, Domenico Ghirlandaio, Pontormo, Andrea del Sarto, Allessando Allori and Orcagna, to name just a few of the painters. Many of the works of art that were commissioned by and were part of the collection of the powerful Medici family were donated to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany by the last of the Medici so that these magnificent works could be enjoyed by everyone and are part of the cultural patrimony of humankind.

3

La Française is a real pleasant surprise in the urban landscape, a breather in the daily hustle and bustle. Place of exercise and idleness for many Foyalais and Foyalaises (this is what the inhabitants of Fort-de-France are called), its calm waters, its landscaped surroundings make it a place to practice nautical activities.

4

. It is the first building built in the city, in 1640. It was designed to defend access to the city against the invasion of enemies: Dutch, Portuguese, but mainly English; because at that time English and French were engaged in a fierce struggle for possession of the islands

5

The Parc de la Savane is a real "green lung" in the heart of the city. Formerly called "Gardens of the King", the park was used for military gatherings: the armies of Napoleon Bonaparte leaving for the Mexican wars were stationed there.

6

Here you will see another famous figure, Victor Schoelcher - His statue sat enthroned in the gardens of the former Palais de Justice, in the heart of the city.

7

Victor Schoelcher is also a man of letters, known for his patronage work. On his death he bequeathed to the city of Fort-de-France a personal collection made up of more than 9,000 works... The library of the capital city now bears his name

8

The cathedral bears the name of a king of France: St Louis. It was burnt down by the Dutch in 1674, destroyed by an earthquake in 1839, destroyed again by a fire in 1890

9

This is the old town hall of the city, transformed into a space of memory and testimony. It is also an 800-seat theatre... Mayor of Fort-de-France, then honorary mayor until 1976, Aimé Césaire marked the social, political and cultural life of Martinique.

10

The Pointe Simon complex includes a 20-storey tower with business offices, a luxury hotel with a capacity of around 100 rooms, a residence with 50 luxury apartments, a commercial space and a raised esplanade, as well as private car parks.

11

We end here, at the Cruise Terminal, our visit to Fort-de-France, the Creole City... Leaving from Front-de-Mer, we complete our circuit at the other end of the harbour, after having made a broad tour of the city... I hope you enjoyed this visit, at least as much as I enjoyed accompanying you
