Stop 1
The representative square of Tallinn – Freedom Square is a popular meeting place designed for pedestrians. The monument to the War of Independence is also located there.

The Great Coastal Gate dates back to the 1300’s with the Fat Margaret tower (Paks Margareeta in Estonian) being added in the 1500’s as the city became a major trading post of the Hanseatic League (a kind of medieval European Union).
The tower has a diameter of 25 metres and a height of 20 metres, making it an imposing structure even today.
Admission to the the sight is 5 euros per person.

Stop 3
Toompea Castle was erected on the foundations of the crumbling eastern wing of the fortress built on this site in the 13th and 14th centuries. The castle with its late Baroque façade was built between 1767 and 1773.

Stop 4
Originally built as a defensive wall in the 14th century, Neitsitorn (Maiden's Tower) has been rebuilt many times over the centuries, and the building has been used as both a residence and a café. Neitsitorn is also a part of the Kiek in de Kök Fortification Museum.
The tower has amazing views of the Danish King's Garden and the lower town.

The Barbican of Viru Gate was part of the defense system of the Tallinn city wall built in the 14th century.
A couple of centuries later, it already had 8 gates that consisted of several towers and curtain walls connecting them. The main tower of a gate was always square and the barbicans were equipped with one or two small round towers.

Town Hall Square has been a marketplace and the centre of this old Hanseatic town since the Middle Ages. It became the centre of the Lower Town at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries.
