Detailed itinerary

1

Our first stop will be at at Jinval Dam for photo taking. Jinvali Dam was made in 1970s in Soviet time for hydro electricy pover. The name of the Dam is coming from the city that was just before the dam. Now this city is under water and the tourists call it also underwater city. It was an old, antique time beautifull city with full of archeological sites and artefacts which are now under water. The local people were given the houses to live not far from the Dam. The level of the Dam rising in Summer in rainy season and reducing in Winter in dry Season. Only one fortress preserved from this city because it is located on higher place, on the hill. Our next stop will be Ananuri fortress.

2

Ananuri Fortress is a mediavel time fortress of 13th century. It was built in order to protect the Jincali city from the enemies and close the roads to the mountains. It has high walls and towers for fighting and one residential tower. There is also one Church in the fortress on the name of Saint-George. Saint-George was protector of Georgian armies, fortresses and cities.

3

In Gudauri we stop for photo taking at Gudauri Friendship monument. Actually it is next to Gudauri. Gudauri Friendship monument, called also Panorama Monument, was built in 1083 Soviet TIme for memorising 200 Years old friendship between Georgian and Russian people. The history of Georgia and Russia is painted on the wall. 200 Years ago a friendship and cooperation agreement was made between Georgian and Russian kings, they call also protectorship agreement, but after last Georgian kign died, Russians abolised kingdom in Georgia and Russian Governors ruled Georgia until Russian Socialist Revolutions, until Communists came to power. So this monument memorizes 200 Years relationship between Georgia and Russia, made in Soviet time propaganda style.

4

Once we arrive in village Stepantsminda tourists can choose if they would like to hike to Gergeti Trinity Church or hire a local jeep to reach the church on the Gergeti hilltop. Gergeti church was built in 14th century, renaissance time. Actually it was a period, when Mongoliens occupied Tbilisi capital city and people run to the mountains to escape. This time Georgian built the Churches in the mountains. There is a fantastic view form Gergeti Church to the village Stepantsminda and Kazbegi mountain.

Please note that we need a local Jeep in Spring when there is a snow in the mountains. In Winter the road is closed sometimes for all cars, because of snow.
