Barbados has the world’s most extensive collection of 400 17th and 18th century English iron cannons. Barbados was a base of great significance for the British military that was stationed on the island in the 1700s to protect their colonies of islands.

To the west of Chamberlain Bridge is the Broad Walk, a wooden boardwalk that runs along the waterfront, offering a fabulous view of the UNESCO City of Bridgetown.

Adorned with symbols of Barbados heritage such as the flying fish and pelican, along with their national flower, the arch is a symbol of Bajan independence and a new beginning. On the top of the arch is the island’s Coat of Arms bearing the national axiom ‘Pride and Industry’, while on the base of the arch is the National Pledge
