Private Tour: Avila and Segovia from Madrid

Avila is the highest provincial capital in Spain (1,131 metres altitude), and is around 100 Km from Madrid, to the northwest.

The old city retains the typical layout of Roman cities; however the undisputed symbol of the city is the medieval wall. This open and walled city is a World Heritage site, and its cultural and historical richness makes it a special place to enjoy its streets and squares.

Not too far from Avila, around 80 Km to the northwest, we arrive in Segovia.

The old city of Segovia and its Aqueduct are also World Heritage sites. In the old city there are many historic civil and military buildings, of both Christian and Jewish construction. And outside the old city is a delightful castle, almost a fairy tale palace, on top of a rock: the Alcázar.

Something to be tried and remembered is the Segovian cuisine, which is very well-known outside its boundaries, not only in Spain but also internationally. Dishes such as ‘judiones’ (broad-beans), roast pork and roast lamb are its famous specialities.

With regard to good restaurants, two of the ones recommended by the Michelin Guide are the ‘Mesón de Cándido’ and the ‘Duque Restaurant’.
