About this experience

Our WW2 walk around central Rome is an eye opening look at major tourist sites from a perspective not often seen by the millions of visitors to the Eternal City. Meeting near Piazza Venezia we explore signs of the World War Two era that often go unnoticed by visitors. The city of Rome was the capital of Fascism for twenty years, a Nazi occupied city for nine months and finally in June 1944 a city liberated by Allied Forces. Our walking tour of central Rome explains the historical events that took place in many familiar locations of the city and shows how often memorials to the era are to be found hidden in plain sight.

Stop 1

Begin your tour at Trajan's Column and learn about the impact of Ancient Rome on WWII era Rome. See Facist era landmarks as well as examples of symbolism taken from Ancient Rome.

Stop 2

The center stage of Fascist Italy where from his famous balcony, Mussolini would speak to thousands of followers in the square below. Also learn about the Vittoriano monument dedicated to the unification of Italy.

Stop 3

Get a view of the Ancient Roman Forum where we can still see the impact that Mussolini's obsession with Ancient Rome had upon the city. Stand in the municipal center of Ancient Rome which continues to be used as the modern era's Mayoral offices

Stop 4

We proceed to the Jewish Ghetto to talk about the history of the Jewish community in Rome, taking in a few of the historical buildings and squares. See symbols and evidence left behind from the Nazi occupation of Rome and it's impact on this neighborhood.

Stop 5

Pass by this main square in Rome while discussing the facist impact on WWII Rome. Discover a variety of different Facist era sites and office buildings that were used in WWII era Rome.

Finish the tour hear after passing by significant WWII government offices in between Piazza Navona and this bridge with a view of St. Peter's Basilica.
