Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

The Holsten Gate is Lübeck's landmark and one of the most popular sights. In the 15th century, the city gate was part of the city fortifications that defended Lübeck from attacks.
With its imposing towers and brick construction, it is a symbol of the history and wealth of the Hanseatic city.

2

Next to the Holsten Gate we find the Lübeck salt warehouses, all of which were built between 1579 and 1745. The salt that was stored here at that time made Lübeck rich. The walk along the salt warehouses on the Trave River is a journey into the past.

3

We take a 60-minute boat tour on the Trave, which is an important river and flows through Lübeck. With its calm and picturesque course, the Trave is a popular destination for boat trips.
From the boat you can watch the lively hustle and bustle in the harbor and the ships passing by. There are cozy bars and nice restaurants right on the Trave.
Passing lovingly restored half-timbered houses, small shops, cozy cafes and alleys and courtyards. Here, away from the main streets, we will experience the unique atmosphere of old Lübeck up close.

4

The Old Town Island
In 1987, Lübeck's old town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The historic city center is called the "Old Town Island" because it is located on a large "island" surrounded by water on all sides. Here we find around 1,800 listed buildings, quaint passageways, alleys and backyards.

5

Officially the cathedral of Lübeck and an example of North German brick Gothic architecture. Its history begins in the 12th century. Over the following centuries there were various construction phases and changes, which culminated in its current imposing appearance.
Inside you will find magnificent vaults, altars and works of art.

6

Lübeck Market Square, Medieval main artery.
The medieval Lübeck Market Square is the center of the historic old town.
Markets are held here regularly, where you can try delicacies.

7

The Holy Spirit Hospital is an ancient building with a long history of social commitment and care for the needy. It was founded in the 13th century and is one of the oldest and largest hospitals in Europe.

8

The church was built around 1170 and is one of the highlight of every visit to Lübeck. We recommend the view from the church's viewing platform: from a height of 50 meters you can see the entire old town.

9

St. Mary's Church is a prime example of North German brick Gothic architecture. Built between 1277 and 1351 and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lübeck's Old Town.
The two towers of St. Mary's Church are an impressive 125 meters high, the roof turret is 60 meters high and can be climbed as part of a tour.
The interior features impressive artistic altars, magnificent stained glass windows and a majestic organ.

10

In this special house we can learn everything about the Nobel Prize winner and writer Thomas Mann, who wrote the novel "The Buddenbrooks".
The house was the family's childhood home

11

The Lübeck Town Hall
The Lübeck Town Hall is one of the oldest and largest town halls in Germany. The medieval town hall with its various contemporary architectural styles (late Baroque, Rococo, Renaissance, early Gothic) is a popular photo subject.

12

World-famous marzipan
Niederegger Lübeck is a renowned confectionery that is world-famous for its exquisite marzipan specialties. Handmade marzipan has been produced here for over 200 years and is considered one of the best marzipan manufacturers in the world.
A visit to the Niederegger Café for lunch or coffee and cake is a must for all those with a sweet tooth and gourmets.

13

The Burgtor and the Burgtor Bridge are historic buildings. The Burgtor was part of the city wall, the Burgtor Bridge leads over the city moat and connects the Burgtor with the old town. Together they form the entrance to the historic center.

14

Lunch in one of Lübeck's oldest restaurants
If you wish, you can have lunch in this beautiful and historic restaurant. Please let me know around 7 days in advance so that I can book a table for you.
The Schiffergesellschaft, a former guild house, is a sociable meeting place, dates back to the beginnings of commercial shipping and was originally compulsory for all sailors in the Hanseatic city. When membership fees ended around 150 years ago, the Schiffergesellschaft became what it is today: a traditional, Hanseatic restaurant with modern cuisine and a historical ambience. Cozy guest rooms await you, where the spirit of past seafarers lives on to this day.
