Stop 2

The Train Cemetery in Uyuni is a major tourist attraction. It is a desolate place full of abandoned railway machinery. When we see that pantheon of twisted iron and disused locomotives, we think of the glorious past they had at the beginning of the 20th century. The rise of silver mining demanded the construction of railways and Uyuni was the place in Bolivia where the whistle of a train was heard for the first time.

You will have a visit with photo stops.

3

The population of Colchani has 580 inhabitants whose economic activities are linked to the extraction of salt, agriculture (real quinoa), crafts and tourism. It is the mandatory stopping point on the way to the majestic Uyuni salt flat, one of the peculiarities of the place is the construction of small houses made of salt bricks and one of its attractions, in addition to the salt factory, are the craft stalls located on the street major.
Activities:
- Purchase of handicrafts at the zero point of the population of Colchani.
- Visit to the salt processor and the Salt Museum in Colchani. - - View of the first Salt Hotel "Playa Blanca" today known as the main salt museum in the area.

4

Your next stop will be the enchanting Salar de Uyuni, which is the largest salt desert in the world. It has an area of more than 10,000 square kilometers and is located at 3,653 meters above sea level in the Bolivian altiplano.
At the southeast end of the Salar de Uyuni, you will visit the salt mounds which come from saline extraction.
This process begins with the delimitation of the place, later the manual shredding is carried out and finally this salt is exposed to the sun to dry in small pyramid shapes.

5

Our guide will accompany you to Incahuasi Island, characterized by being one of the high altitude islands whose soil is made up of fossils of algae, mollusks and other organisms known as stromatolites. There a vegetation composed of cactaceous plants develops.
It is located in the central part, 74 km from Colchani. It has a steep surface of 24 hectares and the highest point is 40 meters above the salt level.

6

Your tour will continue to the Thunupa Volcano, you will learn the history and myths of this mysterious tourist attraction that according to the community members there was a time when the mountains and hills walked, talked and had human forms.
You will visit the Thunupa Volcano and its surroundings, with sighting of Andean Flamingos and wetlands with panoramic views of the Salar de Uyuni.

7

Your visit will be guided by the following cultural heritage of the Salar de Uyuni:
1. Salt Stairway: Designed with the purpose of allowing the taking of photographs with special optical effects. An overwhelming saline ensemble loaded with the most authentic beauty.
2. Dakar Rally Monument and the endless forest of flags: You will observe the flags worldwide, the central symbol of Bolivia, the heart of Latin America.
4. Salt Pyramid: From this point, you will observe the mountains outlined on the horizon, minimized by the distance and by the majesty imposed by the infinite salt plateau.
5. Polygons and Ojos de Sal: In the upper crust of the Salar, you will distinguish the so-called ojos de brine. These are small holes formed by fine, sharp crystals like needles, accompanied by polygonal figures in the immense whiteness of the Salar.

8

You will enjoy a special toast in the middle of the Salar de Uyuni with sandwiches and hot drinks while watching a wonderful sunset, which by nature is painted with surreal colors and landscapes.
Without a doubt... a special and unforgettable experience.

Finally at approximately 7:45 PM, you will return to Uyuni, our team will be in charge of taking you to your hotel in the City or transferring you to the Joya Andina Airport and/or Uyuni bus station.
