City Palace Udaipur, the largest palace complex of Rajasthan located on the banks of Lake Pichola, is the epitome of a colossal citadel that is a concoction of Rajasthani, Mughal, Medieval, European and Oriental architecture. The construction of this magnum opus, started by Maharana Udai Singh II, was carried on by his successors. Each king commissioned his vision to this bastion by sourcing architectural influences and constituents from different parts of the world. Despite having a diverse assortment of architectural influences, they fit seamlessly to showcase the palace as a congruous marvel.

Stop 2

Jagdish temple is one of the best architectural wonders of the Mewar dynasty. Jagdish temple showcases the Indo- Aryan architectural style. The temple is built keeping the rules of Vastushastra, the Hindu architectural science in mind.

This three-storied temple is built on raised platform flaunting magnificently carved pillars, huge airy halls and painted walls that are adorned with vibrant colors and intricately decorated ceilings. At the entrance, there are two massive elephants statues of stone, installed to welcome the visitors. An inscription engraved on the stone slab is found at the entry. Mahara Jagat Singh installed the inscription to record his contributions to the temple.

Jag Mandir also served as a summer retreat and a palace for entertaining the guests of Udaipur city.
The construction of Jag Mandir was started in 1500s by Maharana Amar Singh and was succeeded by his son Maharana Karan Singh. It was finally completed by Maharana Jagat Singh and hence named after him as Jagat Mandir.
In the year 1623, the Mughal emperor Prince Khurram better known as Shah Jahan took refuge of Mewar King Maharana Karan Singh II when he rebelled against Jahangir.
