Drive roughly 70 miles or 1.5-hours until you arrive at the southern tip of the United States' smallest state. As you approach the historic district of the Newport mansions, you'll gaze in wonder at the vast size and beauty of these celebrated homes. The area is home to 11 historic properties and landscapes; 7 are now considered landmarks. The mansions' style and architecture span from the Colonial era to the Gilded Age, and uniquely represent America's social development.

Stop 2

The day trip is yours to fill with the mansions that you'd most like to visit. Explore the Breakers and Marble House, two of Newport's grandest mansions and 19th century summer homes of the affluent Vanderbilt family, for truly lavish design.
