The Arenal Volcano is one of the main tourist attractions in Costa Rica. It is located in the northern region of the country, about 2.5 hours from San Jose. The volcano currently has little activity. However, in 1968 there was a big explosion that destroyed the area causing the death of dozens of inhabitants. Today it is an important tourist center, surrounded by hotels of various categories and multiple complexes of hot springs. The area offers a large number of tourist projects and rain forest areas.

Very close to La Fortuna Town is the Danaus ecological center. This is a private project that has trails through the forest, a butterfly garden, and an indigenous village. The place is perfect to see wild animals such as sloths, toucans, monkeys and others.
