With Master`s degree in history and working as a history teacher I was developing my professional and educational skills what helps me to guide my tours on See, Hear & Feel sense. On my tours participants are encouraged for active participation regardless they have questions or they just want to make an opinion.

On this tour I will guide you through the history of Split where I live all of my life and I will introduce you to all the relevant sights as well as with the interesting hidden gems of the city. Beside history and cultural themes as a main part of the tour, important part is also getting know about local mentality and everyday life with its own special characteristics.

Detailed itinerary

We will meet at Golden Gate (not really made of gold but of stone), northern gate of the Diocletian`s Palace and one of the most known places in Split. Golden Gate are situated opposite to one more very known monument, Gregory of Nin.
Here you will be introduced to the history of Split and importance of Golden Gate.

Stop 2

You will hear interesting story and facts about historical person Gregory of Nin. Also you will hear about highest monument in Split dedicated to him and about sculptor of the monument.

Stop 3

Diocletian`s Palace is the main city monument located in the center of the old city and whole city itself. Built by one of the most successful emperors of Roman Empire, it is one of the best preserved monument of its kind. Here you will be able to hear the story and facts about Roman emperor Diocletian as well as see and hear about the most important parts and hidden gems of his Palace. Also you will found out about transition of the Palace to the medieval city with its own specifics.

Starting from the Golden Gate of the Diocletian`s Palace, you will explore the most important parts of the Palace such as Peristyle, Jupiter`s Temple (outside), Diocletian`s Cellars (Central Substructure), Triclinium, Mausoleum (Cathedral; outside).

Stop 4

While you are standing in the center of the Diocletian`s Palace, the Peristyle, you will be able to hear about its function and importance. As a central spot of the Palace, Peristyle was a place of connecting but also dividing people from the Emperor. From it, it is possible to have a great look around and understand, while you are listening, how the life in Palace was functioning. Also you will be able to hear about transitions of the buildings and life as result of expansion of christianity.
From Peristyle we will enter into the central part of the cellars of the Diocletian`s Palace where I am going to tell you about its usage during history as well as about its importance in history of Split but nowadays also.
Also, from this place we will check up Triclinium, where you will be able to hear about eating habits of the Emperors and Romans in general as well as about the organization of Emperor`s dining room.

Stop 5

The importance of the religion in Roman Empire was very high and the temples to honour gods were indispensable part of Roman residences. You will be able to hear about it and about this particular Jupiter`s Temple while viewing it from outside.

Stop 6

On this outside visit of the Cathedral of St. Domnius, while you standing in front of it, I will be showing you the signifant parts of it and explaining you facts and story behind it. Also I will warn you on significant and interesting things of Cathedral interior, in case that you decide to visit it by yourself after the tour.

Vestibulum or preentrance of the Diocletian`s private chambers in the Palace was decorated in accordance of its importnace. You will found out what it looked like and what was its function.

Stop 8

Riva is the main city promenade. Here I am going to explain you how Riva was built during the centuries and to tell you about its importance for locals as it became central place in the city.

Stop 9

Here you will find out why this small and charming square is called Fruit Square. You will hear about significant monument which stands in the middle of it as well as about other surrounding important sights of the square.

People`s Square or so called Pjaca (Piazza) is, from medieval times till nowadays, center of all city happenings, what the squares ussually are. But, all the squares have its own interesting story and while you are standing on it I will discover you story about this beatiful "with soul" square and its surrounding buildings like old City Hall.

Starting point is at the Golden Gate which are northern gate of the Diocletian`s Palace. They are situated opposite of one more significant monument, 8 meter high statue of Gregory of Nin. The pictures of Golden Gate and Gregory of Nin are among the pictures of this experience.
