… From the sunrise to the confines of the night, the Jemaa El Fnaa Square Marrakech is strolled all day long by foreign tourists for the pleasure of the eyes and the purchase of souvenirs, and by the national tourists for Moroccan folk tales and attractions, and by many workers and trades (from the shopkeeper to the restaurant owners to the animators of all kinds).
Decried or beloved, the thrilling Jemaa El Fnaa Square Marrakech has been for centuries the heart of the Medina of Marrakech: place of justice of the ancient times, place of passage for tourists, place of Entertainment recognized by UNESCO since 2001, agora of ancient and recent cultural events.
The Koutoubia Mosque is a landmark structure in Marrakech. Construction of the minaret was completed under the reign of Yacoub el Mansour (Almohad Caliph Yaqub al-Mansour), who ruled between 1184 and 1199. At the time that it was built, the Koutaoubia Mosque was an engineering feat. Today it is a historical masterpiece.
The Bahia Palace, meaning brilliance in Arabic, is perhaps one of the best-preserved historical sites and certainly most interesting in Marrakech.
Mellah is the old Jewish quarter of the medina. While there are few Jews still residing in the area, a walk through the markets and past the time-worn stores reveals years of history. An assortment of goods is available, but the area is especially known for its wide selection of colourful fabrics and ornate accessories for clothes-making.
The synagogue "Salat El Azama", whose name means: The Synagogue of the Dissidents was built in 1492 at the time of the immigration of the Jews from Spain. Located in the heart of the Mellah of Marrakech, this synagogue is considered one of the most beautiful of Morocco, but especially of the oldest in the world.
The Bab Agnaou is the portion of the fortifications of Marrakesh is best known for its decoration.
