The Cordillera Huayhuash is a compact mountain range 30 kilometers in length, with six peaks over 6000 meters and dozens higher than 5000 meters. It is home to condors and at least 85 other bird species, viscachas (similar to a chinchilla), the emblematic vicuña, and 12 more species of mammals.
