The argan tree (Argania spinosa) is a tree endemic to southwest Morocco. It grows in the semi-arid regions of the Anti-Atlas, forming vast forests and providing a source of food and income for local inhabitants. What makes this tree unique is the production of its nuts, which are the main source of cosmetic argan oil.
A traditional product of Morocco, argan oil has been used for centuries for its many beneficial properties for health and beauty. To obtain the highest quality cosmetic argan oil, unique know-how and traditional methodology passed down from generation to generation are required.
In general, it is estimated that it takes around 90 to 100 kilograms of fruit which yields 5 kg of almonds to extract 1.5 liters of oil.
The process of producing argan oil is very labor intensive and requires specific skills and expertise.
