The Rhino and Lion Reserve is an excellent venue to spend an afternoon or morning viewing some of Africa’s most beautiful animals in an attractive and open environment close to Jo’burg and Pretoria. Reachable in about an hour’s drive from Johannesburg or Pretoria it’s particularly suited if you do not have the time to visit one of the larger reserves further away.
Important: Do not confuse with the Lion Park which is much smaller and does not have the same number of animals. Here also the Lions/Cheetahs and African Wild Dogs although not roaming free with the other animals are in much bigger and more humane spaces. This greatly reduces their aggressive behavior towards the vehicles viewing them.

Arriving at the park, spend 2 hours in the park being guided by an experienced and qualified guide. It's recommended that you go there for a either a half-day, or full-day tour combined with another of the regions attractions. Tours there in a 4x4 vehicle are popular because of the advantageous viewing and it affords access to more of the park.
Here roaming free are rhinoceros, many antelope species including the rare sable, zebras, warthogs and many smaller mammals. In separate enclosures are lions, cheetahs and African wild dogs. There is a licensed restaurant at the centre of the reserve where you can stop for lunch in between viewing the game and the distant views of Johannesburg from the top of one of the koppies. This reserve is an excellent opportunity for the hurried visitor to Gauteng to see some of South Africa’s famous fauna.
