Detailed itinerary

1

Floyd's Pelican Bar is a tiny bar made of driftwood stilted on a huge sandbar about ¾ mile out in the sea. Floyd's Pelican Bar is located in Parottee Bay on the South Coast of Jamaica and has to be one of the most unique places to eat and have a drink in the entire world – hands down the best bar in the Caribbean!

This bar is definitely one to talk about. It is a tiny bar made of drift wood on a huge sandbar about a mile or less out in the sea. It is one of the most unique places to eat. To get to the bar there is a 20 minute boat ride. Once there you can take a swim sun bathe, eat fish/ lobster while sipping on a cool drink. If you are going to eat inform the driver to call ahead because their is no formal dinning area to sit. The decor inside is one of a kind, it is covered with relics from many parts of the. If you choose you can bring something to leave behind or carve your initial into the wood.

2

Bamboo Avenue - St. Elizabeth
One of the most magnificent sights on the south coast main road is Bamboo Avenue, in the Holland area of St. Elizabeth Parish. Bamboo Avenue is a two and a half mile stretch of road between Lacovia and Middle Quarters which is lined with giant bamboo plants which tower above the road and cross in the middle to form a shady tunnel. The avenue was established in the 17th century by the owners of the Holland Estate to provide shade for travelers and to protect the road from erosion.

Other bamboo avenues exist in Jamaica, these are usually in mountainous regions. However, the bamboo avenue in Holland is the longest by far and the only one which covers a busy road.

Restoration project
The bamboo coverage used to be much thicker than it currently is but weather conditions in recent years (most notably Hurricane Gilbert in 1988 and Hurricane Ivan in 2004) have caused the Bamboo coverage to thin considerably. Travelers can choose to stop for photos here.

3

Middle Quarters - St. Elizabeth

The tiny village of Middle Quarters, just outside of Black River, is famous all over Jamaica for one thing - "Pepper Shrimp". Groups of locals line the road tempting passing travelers with bags of bright red spicy pepper shrimp. From their simple stalls (usually Dutch pots boiling on open grills and plastic bowls full of shrimp, set about a creaky wooden table) they sell one of the tastiest snacks available on the island.

The shrimp is boiled in salty water filled with crushed scotch bonnet peppers. The spicy and salty flavours compliment each other perfectly when absorbed in to the shrimp.

Most of the shrimps are caught in the nearby Black River but sometimes these catches are supplemented from nearby Westmoreland. Travelers can also stop here to take photos or even purchased shrimp.
