Detailed itinerary

1

The Central Park Independencia is considered one of the most precious symbols of the city of Puerto Plata and has great historical value for Dominicans. It was built by the military and president Gregorio Luperón during the government he led in 1879. Parque Independencia–also known as Parque Central–is the centerpiece of Puerto Plata city, framed with royal palms and hugged on all four corners by pastel-colored Victorian-era architecture. The white Catedral del Apóstol San Felipe towers over the square, where Puerto Plateños relax throughout the day and night with friends and family. You’ll find a café, ice cream parlor, and restaurant around the square, while the city’s key museums are just a couple of blocks away.

2

Paseo de Doña Blanca or El Pasaje de Doña Blanca is a small Pink alley in the center of Puerto Plata painted entirely in pink. This beautiful alley is a tribute to the founder of the first hotel in the city of Puerto Plata, the Europa hotel.
Its history dates back to 1898 when Isidoro Rainieri and Bianca Franceschini, natives of Italy, arrived in Puerto Plata and realizing that a hotel was needed to serve travelers, they decided to found the Hospedaje del Comercio, which they later changed the name to Hotel Europe

3

The original wooden church was destroyed by fire in 1863 during the so-called "War of the Restoration". Its reconstruction began in 1929 and was completed in 19563, being affected by an earthquake in 1946. In 2003, a new earthquake damaged the structure, which was renovated in 2008.

The temple built in modern Victorian style, follows the Roman or Latin rite and is the mother or main church of the Diocese of Puerto Plata (Dioecesis Portus Argentarii) which was created by the then Pope John Paul II in 1996 through the papal bull "Venerabilis Frater" with territory formerly belonging to the archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros.
