Pilikuttuwa is one of the largest settlements of forest monks in Sri Lanka, consisting of about 99 caves, some of which are inhabited by reclusives. The large area of the historical monastery is full of charming sites, such as a stup in a rock shelter or an ancient wooden bridge in between rock boulders.

Maligathenna is both a cultural and a natural attraction. A monastic complex is situated at the foot of the hill. A path starting from the monks' quarter leads through rock shelters and chasms to the top of the highest hill and best 360 degree panoramic viewpoint in Gampaha District.
