Located in the Idukki district of Kerala, and quite close to the rather popular hill station of Munnar, Rajamala Hills is a wonderful escape from the humdrum city life. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to the rare Nilgiri Tahr which is a type of mountain goat. Also worth a visit is the Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary which is a portion of the much larger Eravikulam National Park which is 97 square kilometres in area.
Also known as Lakkom Falls, Munnar’s Lakkam Waterfalls are located 7,300 feet above the sea level. An interesting feature about this waterfall is that it starts from a plateau and not a hill, which is the case with most other falls. Originating from the Eravikulam Plateau, Lakkam Waterfalls collect into a pool.
Ensconced in a green surrounding, Lakkam Waterfalls are enclosed by a dense collection of Vaga trees and boulders which one needs to climb to get very close to the falls. Taking pictures apart, the falls are famous for boulder hiking and even bathing in the pool.
