Visit the San Felipe de Barajas fortress, considered the most important fortress in South America.

Four hundred years ago jesuits established in Cartagena and founded a school and a church in downtown.

It is named after the church of the Holy Trinity, founded in 1643 and located in the square.

Plaza Santo Domingo lies at the heart of the old walled city of Cartagena and is one of the city’s most famous squares. The square is named after the Santo Domingo Church.

The gate was built over the course of thirty years – from 1601 to 1631 – and became the main entrance to the city. At the time, it was known as the Boca del Puente – the Mouth of the Bridge – as it connected Getsemani to the Old City.

The setting for the legendary hotel Santa Clara, the 16th-century convent that provided the inspiration for Márquez’s novel Of Love and Other Demons.

The Cathedral of Cartagena, is located in the historic centre of Cartagena. It is the episcopal see of the Archbishop of Cartagena de Indias, one of the oldest episcopal sees in the Americas.

This colorful corridor could not possibly have a more wildly contrasting function today than the one it used to serve in the past.

This church dates from 1600 and definitely looks like it, with peeling painted walls and a rather gloriously ramshackle air.

Worth visiting for the elegant, colorful architecture, Plaza de la Aduana is one of the most extensive areas in the walled city, with many restaurants, banks and bars.

The name honors the saint known as "Slave of Slaves", who lived and died in this monastery.

This is where the proclamation of independence was made; this is the main importance of this Plaza. There is also a statue of the Pope next to the cathedral and many street vendors.
