There's more to Rome than St. Peter's. There are three other Papal Basilicas in the city, each one of them with a Holy Door and an altar reserved for the Pope.
These majestic buildings preserve precious relics, works of art and tombs of many popes. We will meet at Santa Maria Maggiore, the first church ever to be dedicated to Mary Mother of God. Then a transport will pick us up and take us to Saint Paul outside the walls, where you'll have the chance of visiting the hidden medieoval cloister. Our tour will end at Rome's Cathedral of Saint John Lateran, the Head and Mother of all Churches, that also has a beautiful medieval garden. After the tour you'll have the chance of visiting the nearby Holy Stairs, the very same Jesus stepped on his way to trial in Jerusalem.
This Papal Basilica is one of the most ancient churches in Rome. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary in the V century, it is decorated with beautiful mosaics from late antiquity and the Middle Ages, it is tomb to many popes and it preserves relics from the Holy Manger.
This basilica was originally built on the tomb of the apostle Saint Paul, whose remains are kept under the main altar. The basilica preserves a precious bronze door cast in Constantinople in the XI century and it is decorated with a moisaic freeze with portraits of all the popes from St. Peter until Pope Francis.
The Basilica of Saint John's Lateran is the first church built in the western world. It is considered thehHoliest and the Mother of all Churches: It is the Cathedral of Rome, the Pope's seat as Archbishop of Rome. It preserves relics of St. Peter and St. Paul on the main altar, as well as remains of the table where Jesus and the apostles attended the Last Supper.
You will meet your tour guide, holding a DestinoRomaTours sign, outside the Basilica.
