Detailed itinerary

1

Welcome to the breathtaking Serra de Sintra, a beautiful mountain range located just a few kilometers from Lisbon. This natural and cultural treasure attracts visitors from around the world. With its rolling green hills, valleys, and ancient rock formations, the Sintra Mountains offer a unique combination of nature and history — a truly special place to explore.

2

The Queijada from Casa do Preto is one of Sintra’s most beloved and traditional sweets. With its crisp pastry base and rich caramelized filling made of fresh cheese, eggs, and sugar, this small delicacy has won hearts for generations.

Founded in 1931, Casa do Preto quickly became famous not only for the quality of its queijadas but also for its warm atmosphere and prime location at the entrance of Sintra. The name “Casa do Preto” honors the founder’s nickname — a charismatic figure in Sintra’s history.

Over the years, it has remained one of the best places to taste Sintra’s authentic flavors — a perfect stop for a sweet break with a view of the mountains.

3

Hidden near Sintra’s historic center, the Sabuga Fountain is a quiet and charming spot dating back to the 17th century. Known for its fresh, mineral-rich water, it has long been associated with local traditions. According to legend, the water had healing properties — especially for eye ailments — and people would come here to drink or wash their eyes.

Surrounded by lush vegetation along a peaceful path leading to the old town, the fountain offers a relaxing pause. Whether for its history, its legends, or simply the serenity of the setting, the Sabuga Fountain remains a small but meaningful gem of Sintra.

4
Stop 4

The first monument we encounter is the Moorish Castle, an impressive fortress dating back to the Islamic occupation and the conquests of King Afonso Henriques, Portugal’s first monarch. Although we do not enter, we admire it from a distance — its ancient walls winding over the hills, offering breathtaking views that stretch from Lisbon to the Atlantic Ocean.

5
Stop 5

The highlight of the day is the Pena Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll enjoy a guided visit through the surrounding park, including access to the terraces and the palace café. We intentionally skip the royal chambers, as the high visitor volume can affect the experience and waste valuable time in queues.

The real magic lies in exploring the tranquil gardens, scenic viewpoints, and hidden corners that embrace the palace — where Sintra’s romantic essence truly comes alive.

6
Stop 6

Discover one of Sintra’s most captivating sites — the mystical Quinta da Regaleira. Explore the famous Initiation Well, wander through underground tunnels, and stroll across magical gardens filled with symbolism and mystery.

This unique property is a masterpiece of architecture and imagination, blending nature, art, and esoteric design into one of the most iconic attractions in the region — a true journey through the spiritual and romantic soul of Sintra.

7

Welcome to Colares, a charming village on the edge of the Sintra Mountains. Known for its natural landscapes and century-old vineyards, Colares offers a peaceful and authentic atmosphere.

We’ll take a panoramic drive through the village, with time to appreciate its cobblestone streets, traditional houses, and quiet squares. We’ll also stop for lunch at a typical Portuguese restaurant offering a variety of meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes — the perfect setting to enjoy regional flavors in a relaxed and local environment.

8
Stop 8

Discover Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Portugal — and continental Europe.

Enjoy the stunning views and capture unforgettable photos at this iconic spot, known as the “end of Europe,” where the land dramatically meets the vast Atlantic Ocean.
