You will admire the amazing monumental complex of Piazza del Duomo also called Campo dei Miracoli that encloses the famous Leaning Tower, the Cathedral, the Baptistry and the Monumental Cemetery. The latter is considered a holy place because it was created around a layer of earth some crusaders brought away from Mount Golgotha close to Jerusalem. You will walk along the Lungarno enjoying the sight of palaces, towers and churches and you will get to Piazza dei Cavalieri with the beautiful Palazzo della Carovana and Palazzo dell’Orologio, splendid examples of the Renaissance architecture. When you see the mural Tuttomondo” on the south wall of the church of Saint Anthony, painted by Keith Haring in 1989, you will come back from the Renaissance period to not long ago. Hopefully, you will have enough time to taste some local food, such as the traditional soup with frogs or the delicious torta co’ bischeri”, the most well-known cake of Pisa.
