Detailed itinerary

1

The Demerara Harbour Bridge is a significant infrastructure landmark located in Guyana, South America. It spans the Demerara River, connecting the country's capital city, Georgetown, to the western region of Demerara-Mahaica. This floating bridge is a crucial transportation link, facilitating the movement of vehicles and pedestrians between these areas.

The bridge's construction was completed in 1978, and it has since become a vital artery for commerce, trade, and daily commuting in the region. The Demerara Harbour Bridge plays a pivotal role in connecting urban and rural areas, fostering economic growth, and enhancing accessibility for the local population. It's an iconic symbol of Guyana's development and a testament to the engineering prowess required to create and maintain such a complex structure in a challenging environment.

The Blue Lakes and White Sands are unique to the town of Linden. These man-made lakes were formed from vast valleys left behind once mining ceased in an area. The white sandy hilly terrain naturally occurs within the region. Linden is home to many of these lakes and they are considered a hub for recreational activities in the town

4

The Linden Museum of Industrial & Socio-Cultural Heritage is housed in a building formerly called the Recreational Hall. It is located on Co-op Crescent Street, Mackenzie. This single-storey structure was built in 1925 and served numerous functions such as a dancehall, cinema and a general meeting place.

The building housed the museum after the latter’s establishment in 2006 during the Linden Town Week activities. It was established by the Region Ten Tourism Development Association. The museum displays miniature replicas of trains and factory buildings along with artefacts, journals, newspapers and photographs.

5

The Alumina Plant at the time of its construction was considered the largest and most expensive superstructure to be undertaken in British Guiana. It was built by the Demerara Bauxite Company (DEMBA) and is located at Spieghtland, (on Republic Avenue) Mackenzie, Linden.

6

The Bauxite Plant, located on the eastern side of the Demerara River, was built circa 1917 after the establishment of the Demerara Bauxite Company (DEMBA). For some time the town was synonymous with the word Bauxite due to the economic strides it brought to the township.

7

The Christianburg Waterwheel located on Burnham Drive, Christianburg, Linden, was installed as part of a hydro-powered sawmill on the plantation sometime during the latter half of the 1800s. This hydro-powered sawmill was needed to improve the production of logs and reducing the cost associated with it. The waterwheel is regarded as one of the earliest engineering structures to be built in the town.

8

Watooka House commonly referred to as the Watooka Guest House is an early 20th century colonial three-storey building. During the early 1900s, the building which was then privately owned was bought and renovated by the Demerara Bauxite Company (DEMBA) to accommodate its managers.

Guests enjoy swimming here and relaxation overlooking the Demerara River.
