After meeting your camel and been given some basic instructions the trek starts by making your way over a number of sand dunes with varied vegetation from grasses to shrubs to small trees.
The trail takes you past the remains of a house once the temporary residence of famous rock star Jimi Hendrix, then to the beach where you ride alongside Atlantic Ocean, with the camels occasionally dipping their hooves into the water.
After about an hour there is time for a brief pause and a chance to dismount, when it’s wise to have a drink, which we suggest you carry in a backpack. After this the trek begins again returning back along the beach with the view of Essaouira in front of you.
On the return there is an opportunity to pause to observe the crumbling remains of a 16th century Portuguese fort, which is inaccessible as it lies surrounded by the ocean some 200 feet offshore. A path alongside the river is the route back to the ranch.
